Dental Bridge
Dental Bridge
A Dental Bridge is for patients who have had one or more of their teeth removed and they would like to close the gap by installing pontics or false teeth to replace the missing tooth or teeth. The Dentist can create a bridge using the patient’s healthy teeth on either side of the one or more teeth that were removed. If there is no healthy tooth to attach the pontics to, the dentist can install an implant to act as an anchor in their stead.
Most patients choose a Dental Bridge because:
-
It will improve their smile since there will no longer be a gap.
-
It helps when the patient chews or bites down.
-
It helps with the general appearance of their face.
-
It helps keep the remaining teen in place.
There are many materials used in the production of pontics or false teeth. The bridge itself can be constructed from either porcelain or ceramic materials. Once installed no one but the patient and their dentist will know that they have a Dental Bridge installed.
The lifespan of a bridge depends on the patient’s upkeep of their teeth, and regular visits to the Dentist are encouraged to improve the lifespan as well as the overall health of the remaining teeth and gums.
Step-By-Step Process of a Dental Bridge:
Step-By-Step Process of a Dental Bridge:
Consultation: Dr. Markowitz will schedule an appointment for the patient to come into the office where he can examine the area where the tooth or teeth are being replaced, as well as the condition of the surrounding teeth that will be used to support the bridge. Dr. Markowitz uses the latest state-of-the-art 3D imaging scanning to produce an accurate image of your teeth and bone structure. This process eliminates any guesswork and aids in the production of the new teeth. There is no longer any need to take dental impressions since the 3D scanner will capture all the information necessary to produce the bridge.
Installation: On the second visit, the new bridge will be checked for fit and adjustments made if necessary. Depending on the conditions of the patient’s teeth and bone, the bridge may be mounted temporarily to make sure the new bridge is comfortable for the patient and is a perfect fit. Shortly after, it will be made permanent in a follow-up visit.
Following the completion of the Dental Bridge, the patient will be able to eat more comfortably without the “gap” in their teeth. Dr. Markowitz recommends that while your gums and teeth adapt to the Dental Bridge, you eat soft foods and try not to chew on large pieces of food that require pressing down firmly.
Just as it is essential to care for your natural teeth, so too is true of the Dental Bridge. Proper dental hygiene is required to maintain the strength of the supporting teeth or Implant that supports the bridge. Dr. Markowitz recommends that the patient maintains a regular schedule of visits to the dentist to both prevent any further damage as well as help with the overall health of the patient’s natural teeth and bone.
